Need an excuse to have an affair? According to some lovely researchers out of Sweden, 40% of men have a good excuse for their extramarital affairs. Supposedly, it’s genetic.
“According to the study’s conclusions, those men with the cheating allele were more prone to marital dysfunction and more likely to get divorced. Men with two copies of the allele were twice as likely as a man without the allele.”
As if we ever really needed any more reasons for our lack of commitment to marriage these days, researchers have offered us another excuse for showing no self-control. So gents, feel free sow your wild oats. When it’s all done and your kids are a wreck and your home has been destroyed, just chalk that one up to a genetical problem. I’m sure your wife and kids will understand why you abandoned them.
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.”
II Timothy 3:1-9 NIV
The man who slept with my wife was of this sort. He claimed to love God, but wormed his way into my home.
Lisa and I listen to stories of affairs every day from all over the country. These men and women claim to have a form of godliness (aka they go to church), but deny it’s power. We’ve lost sight of the home God created. We’ve lost sight of his will for Godly homes. As a result, we’ve become lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
The world will give you tons of excuses to continue or start an affair. I encourage you to let your fear of God Almighty keep you from separating what he has joined together. Let there be no more excuses. Have nothing to do with them.
